PROGRAMS

Drop by any Thursday for a casual meet up with other filmmakers and doc lovers. Some evenings it will be a work in progress screening, some a skill share or Q&A, and some evenings we will simply watch a doc together.

You have a doc project? Amazing! NW Documentary has resources to help. Equipment. Editing workstations. Fiscal sponsorship. For films of all kinds, filmmakers of all backgrounds and skill levels.

We offer workshops for new, emerging, and established filmmakers. All workshops have a DIY ethos at heart. We want you up to your elbows in the software or out in the world with your camera. Find stories, make some mistakes, and create!

Over the years we've partnered with organizations like OMSI, the Dougy Center, Saturday Academy, and Portland Public Schools to teach the basics of documentary filmmaking.

Every now and then we bring filmmakers together to make short films from a common prompt. It's a chance to work in parallel. An excuse to explore film craft and storytelling. In the end the shorts play together as something bigger than any single short.

We're always looking to use our powers for good. One way we do that is collaborations with other nonprofits to help them tell their stories. Often these are small paid projects that support filmmakers and community at the same time.

NW Documentary has been around since 2003. Programs come and go but we don't want to forget all the good work and kind people. Good to keep an archive of what's in our wake to see what horizon we're heading toward.

NW Documentary Arts and Media is a 501(c)3 nonprofit registered in the state of Oregon.
